Hydro-electric energy is the sole source of energy produced in Aust-Agder. The county´s many rivers and deep valleys provide well-suited locations for hydro-electric production. Annual production is between 4.000 and 4.500 GWH. Roughly 50 % of the county´s hydro-electric power is exported during normal years. Some small-scale hydro-electric plants are under construction, while several older plants are being modernised. Production will increase somewhat as a result, allowing the county to provide new industries with hydroelectric power at competitive rates.
